Now Playing Tracks

one year ago this was the single for comic relief and i became a giant fan while abroad in Leicester, England. i’m stoked that they are finally breaking into the US and this will be their next single stateside this tuesday.

some days stay gold forever…

As we grow up, we learn that even the one person that wasn’t supposed to ever let us down, probably will. You’ll have your heart broken and you’ll break others’ hearts. You’ll fight with your best friend or maybe even fall in love with them, and you’ll cry because time is flying by. So take too many pictures, laugh too much, forgive freely, and love like you’ve never been hurt. Life comes with no guarantees, no time outs, no second chances. you just have to live life to the fullest, tell someone what they mean to you and tell someone off, speak out, dance in the pouring rain, hold someone’s hand, comfort a friend, fall asleep watching the sun come up, stay up late, and smile until your face hurts. Don’t be afraid to take chances or fall in love and most of all, live in the moment because every second you spend angry or upset is a second of happiness you can never get back.”

Beautiful World—montage of clips over the past 14 years.

It’s quite strange to think that Westlife is going to be officially over when their tour is completed later this year. I became a fan when they started. I remember seeing and hearing ‘swear it again’ when it was released in 1999, and how I rushed to the store to buy their debut album (the only one released in the US). I remember begging my mom to buy me their cds that had to be imported and their dvds that had to be region 0 so I could watch them at home. Their songs got me through many moments and times in my life during my awkward pre-teens and teenage years. Although I am not from Ireland or the UK, I was an avid supporter and adoring fan. When Brian (Bryan) left the band, I went into mourning wearing black for a week—-it’s quite humorous now, looking back, but I realize what an impact they had on my life. During my junior year abroad, I was finally able to see them live in concert, a dream I had doubted would come to fruition. It is something I will always cherish and appreciate.

While it is sad they are ending their astonishing careers as Westlife, they’re entering new chapters in their lives. Ironically it coincides with the new chapter I will soon be entering with the commencement of my undergraduate education. I grew up with Westlife and now as they are ending, I am not only saying goodbye to them and my childhood but I am welcoming this new stage in my life, full of apprehension and uncertainty.

Here’s to a memorable 14 years and now to the future, whatever may come.
